Widzew Łódź won against the city in the case of Mateusz Dróżdż. The Appellate Court upheld the verdict in the case, in which Dróżdż was accused by the City of Łódź of improper behavior during the Widzew Łódź vs. Legia Warsaw match in August 2022. The case began in 2022. The case concerned a film and press release published on August 15, 2022, by the Press Office of the President of the City of Łódź based on recordings from the Widzew Łódź vs. Legia Warsaw match. The materials suggested that Mateusz Dróżdż had committed a series of improper behaviors, including damaging road signs, blocking the entrance to the VIP area, or bringing a critical banner of the city authorities to the stadium. Dróżdż strongly rejected these accusations, considering them to be untrue and damaging to his good name. As a result, he filed lawsuits against the author of the recording, the president of the Municipal Arena of Culture and Sport, and the City of Łódź. The first two cases ended in agreements and apologies, while the city did not decide on a settlement. The court ultimately sided with Dróżdż. In the court's opinion, attributing such actions to him constituted a violation of his personal rights. In addition to the obligation to apologize, the court also maintained the order to pay 20,000 PLN to the "Krwinka" Foundation, which supports children with oncological diseases. Unfortunately, it is the residents of the city who will have to pay for the foolishness of the authorities.
